The Great Kevin Costner....

Name the movie...It's harder than you would think...

1. The people who hire me, they don't have to be convinced to save their own lives.

2. Milady, a woman of your beauty has no need for such... decorations.

3. I had a case a while back, a couple was drowning. By the time I got there, the husband was dragging his wife under, just trying to stay afloat. Pure survival instinct. It took me a long time to understand that that man was me.

4. I hit it again because that shot was a defining moment, and when a defining moment comes along, you define the moment... or the moment defines you.

5. Because I haven't seen it. And I've sailed further than most men have dreamed.

6. No. But we could still be friends.

7. The only thing we had in common was that she was from Iowa, and I had once heard of Iowa.

8. I’m the player to be named later.

9. The FBI says they can prove it through physics in a nuclear laboratory. Of course they can prove it. Theoretical physics can also prove that an elephant can hang off a cliff with its tail tied to a daisy! But use your eyes, your common sense.

10. Nothing I have been told about these people is correct. They are not thieves or beggars. They are not the bogeymen they are made out to be. On the contrary, they are polite guest and I enjoy their humor.

Good luck!

Gotta love Swamp Coolers

It's that time of year again. The heat is here. Know how I know? Yes, the thermometer is high, but that is not why I know. My wife lets me know. The hotter she gets, the quicker she lets me know how hot it is. It is almost like clockwork. This part of the summer isn't so bad. She keeps it in check. But by August, watch out!

We are lucky to have both an Air Conditioner and a Swamp Cooler. I am sure , you all know what a swamp cooler is. For me, it's a life saver! I love it! We had a new A/C installed a couple of years ago now. When that was installed, the Swamp Cooler was working, but we were not using it. The cooler would allow the cool air from the A/C unit to escape out the duct work, and our electric bill was enormous. The company who installed the new A/C unit fixed the cooler so the air could no longer escape. But it also rendered it unusable. So for the last 2 summers, we have only used the A/C. Comparatively, the A/C is much more expensive. How much more? The cooler costs about 80% less to run than the A/C (according to the Internet).

This year, the wife (and myself) let me know that it was hot early. So we decided that this is the year we were going to repair the cooler. I had to remove the barometric damper that the A/C company had sealed. After a brief struggle, and a really big mallet, I was able to remove it. Next came the rest of the repairs. I got lucky, the main motor to the blower still works! After about $45 of minor repairs, our cooler is now working! When I turned it on once it was running, the inside temperature of our house was a nice 87 degrees. Just a bit warm to sleep in. Before bedtime, the cooler had reduced it to about 79 degrees. We left it on low and woke up to 69 degrees! Yes, in the summer, our house was below 70 degrees!

Now, the cooler only works in ideal conditions, like right now, and at the end of the summer. It can only cool about 25 degrees, so when temps hit above 105, or if it is humid out (monsoon season), its power to cool is gone. But for now, swamp cooler yes, A/C no.

I think tonight we will put the cooler on high and see just how cool we can get our house. Blankets will me needed!

Is this CRAZY ???

A 12-year-old boy has become the youngest bowler to earn money at a Professional Bowlers Association event -- but he can't spend that cash right away.

Kamron Doyle of Brentwood, Tenn., finished 30th in the PBA's Canton (Ga.) Open Regional tournament Sunday, receiving $400 that will be deposited into a scholarship account.

Bowling as a non-PBA member, he had a 2,797 13-game pinfall total for a 215.1 average. The sixth-grader was competing against a 94-player field that included some of the top regional and national tour professional players from the organization's South region.

He was already the youngest bowler to roll a United States Bowling Congress-certified 800 series. He became interested in the sport when he attended a friend's bowling birthday party at the age of 7.

"After that he was hooked," his mother Cathy said, according to PBA.com. "Before we knew it he was bowling three days a week and at this point I think he's got about 60 bowling balls."

Doyle said he's already thinking about his future in the sport, according to the PBA.com report.

"When I'm ready for college I'd like to go to Wichita State or Weber State because they are two of the top bowling schools," he said, according to the report. "After that I'd like to bowl on the PBA Tour."

Quote of the Day

People have always doubted whether I was good enough to play this game at this level. I

thought I was, and I thought I could be. What other people thought was really always irrelevant

to me.

If you need another reason to hate Mark Cuban...

Mark Cuban is the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. He is outspoken, to say the least. He is a poor sport, when it comes to being an owner. Anytime his team loses, he looks for any reason why, other than his team was the lesser of the two teams. I can't tell you how many times he has been fined for making comments about the refs, or other players. Ultimately, if they lose, it is because the players weren't better that the team they played. Who is responsible for that? The owner. Example, Steve Nash. Steve played for the Mavericks. The Suns signed Nash to a new contract. Steve gave Mark Cuban a chance to match it. Not beat it. match it. Cuban refused. He let Steve walk. Why? Cuban didn't want to pay Steve that much money. Then Steve wins back to back MVP awards. Does Cuban admit he made a mistake? No. He instead chooses to make a sly comment about Nash. " Why couldn't he play like that when he played for us?" Are you kidding? Maybe because you didn't get other players to help him. Cuban, you blew it. Everyone knows this.

Here is yet another blunder by Cuban that wants you to wish he was not an owner. because you can, doesn't mean you should. In this case, it's all about the money and headlines:

Mark Cuban's HDNet television network is teaming up with "Girls Gone Wild" on a reality show.
The outspoken owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks said this week that the show would be a behind-the-scenes look at the Girls Gone Wild brand, known for young women exposing themselves on camera.
The series is titled "Girls Gone Wild Presents: Search for the Hottest Girl in America." It will run for 12 weeks starting next week as part of HDNet's "Guys Night in" lineup.

Cuban truly is a lowlife. I don't want to say he is stupid, because clearly, he is smart. He has a bazillion dollars to prove it. But this is all about self promotion. He wants to be in the headlines so bad. By the way, I do believe the creator of the "Girls Gone Wild" videos is currently in jail. There is a person you want to do business with.

Way to go Mark! Now shut up and go away...

Squeaky Shoes

Google is a wonderful tool. You can find answers to almost anything. My right shoe on my NB 608's squeaks everytime I take a step. So, for kicks, I googled "how to fix a shoe squeak". Amazingly, here were the results of the search: " Results 1 - 10 of about 106,000 for how to fix a shoe squeak. (0.16 seconds) ". Yes, 106,000. Here is the one i clicked on:

There are few things more annoying than hearing a squeak each time you take a step. Everyone can hear you coming and there’s nothing you can do to stop the squeaking. This actually is a common problem often caused during the shoe manufacturing process. Shoes often become squeaky when two materials rub against each other. This could be as simple as where the tongue of the shoe rubs up against the underside of the laces or could be because some areas of the shoe were not properly glued. Either way, there are some ways to fix this annoying problem of squeaky shoes.

Solution #1: Baby Powder

- Simply lift the inner sole of the shoe and sprinkle powder inside. Leave the powder inside as you replace the inner sole. Lift the inner sole partly and dust with baby powder. Wear shoes as you normally would.
- Another baby powder solution is to give the entire shoe a dusting – especially where the sole is attached to the leather top or, if it is a lace up shoe, where two shoe materials may rub up against each other (for example, where the tongue falls underneath the laces of the shoe). Let sit overnight and see if the squeaking stops.

Solution #2: Super Glue

- If your shoe has a heel on it, the heel could be loose. If you can tell that this is the case, you can put a dab of glue inside the part not securely fastened and hold for a few seconds while the glue adheres and dries.

Solution #3: Let the shoes dry

- Wet shoes often become squeaky shoes. If this is the case for you, stuff the shoes with paper towels and let them dry at room temperature. Do not wear shoes until they are fully dry. Then, see if the squeaking stops.

Solution #4: Saddle Soap

- When the tongue rubs against the shoe underneath the laces and baby powder (see solution #1) does not work, try using saddle soap. Rub the tongue with the saddle soap and, then, try wearing them. The shoes should no longer squeak.

Seriously. Not one, but four official sounding solutions. But wait, there is MORE:

That is all for home fixes for squeaky shoes. If you have tried all of the above and the shoes still are squeaky you have a few other potential solutions:

- If the shoes are new, the squeaking likely is caused by the manufacturing process. Take the shoes back where you purchased them and ask for a new pair or a free repair.

- If the shoes are old, the noise may be caused by the soles being worn. If so, you can take the shoes to a cobbler who can tell you if the shoes can be resoled.

- If the shoes are old, the shank could be loose. This is another time to take the shoes to a shoe repair shop for further help.

- If you cannot figure out where the squeaking is coming from, a cobbler can take a look at the shoes or watch you walk in them to help you figure out what needs to be done.
